Despite its release 11 years ago, Rockstar Games’ legendary game Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) continues to maintain its popularity. Having been released for PC, Xbox One, PS4, and next-gen consoles, it had yet to come to mobile devices and Nintendo Switch—until now. Thanks to tech enthusiasts and fans, GTA V can now be played on modern Android phones.
Powerful Android Device Needed for GTA 5
One of the notable methods used to play GTA V on Android devices is through the Winlator PC emulator platform. Winlator is software that enables running Windows-based games on Android devices. This emulator performs particularly well on devices with Snapdragon processors and has seen significant improvements in recent years.
GTA 5 runs almost flawlessly on modern Android phones. It’s now possible to experience this massive open-world game on a small smartphone screen without experiencing graphical glitches or freezes.
The ability to run GTA V on Android devices has long been a challenging goal for fans. The game has been attempted on various emulators over the years but generally faced performance issues that hindered playability. However, with the latest version of Winlator and new hardware like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the game can now be played stably on mobile devices.
In tests conducted with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 series phones and Winlator 7, users reported frame rates between 40 and 100 FPS. They claimed not to encounter issues like lag, errors, or crashes. However, it’s important to note that high-resolution settings aren’t achievable with the emulator: these tests were conducted with the game running at 720p resolution.
Rockstar Games has not officially ported GTA 5 to mobile devices yet. However, older titles in the series, such as GTA: San Andreas, Vice City, and Liberty City Stories, have been successfully available on mobile devices for years.
What do you think about this? Have you tried playing GTA 5 on your Android device with Winlator? Don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments.
